Jacob Caine Archaeology Mystery #3

Professor Jacob Caine is leading a field school at the 1,000 year old Wildcat site, a Native American village and fish weir in southwestern Wisconsin. Jake’s students discover an ancient skull fragment in the weir, leading them to suspect that a burial site may be eroding into the river upstream. Adding to their troubles, a second skull is found — but this one is much more recent, with a tell-tale bullet hole indicating murder!

Hoping to preserve the endangered Native American burial site, and discover more about the modern murder victim, Jake and his students, aided by Jake’s girlfriend, Deputy Pam Hauser, attempt to survey the nearby landscape, only to be stymied by an apathetic local sheriff, suspicious and feuding landowners, and Professor Clark Kelley, Jake’s primary nemesis, who is running his own field school nearby.

As time runs short, Jake and his team struggle to investigate the surrounding areas while finishing work at the Wildcat site. The tension mounts, and even Jake and Pam find themselves at odds, threatening to disrupt their personal relationship.
